ND Filters: The Sunglasses for Your Drone

Have you ever noticed that when you put on sunglasses, it stops you from squinting in the sun and makes everything just look a little bit nicer? Well, the drone camera is exactly the same! That’s why today, I’m walking you through ND filters and how they make your shots look tons better. All these videos were taken with the DJI Mini 3, and the ND filters I’m using are Neewer ND filters—really, really good kit, I highly recommend them. But yeah, let’s get into it! Testing ND Filters on the DJI Mini 3 So we’re starting out with zero filter on the drone, and as you can see, it’s really, really bright. Way too much light, and it’s blowing out all the details. Now we go up to ND8, and it’s a bit better. ND16—a little better again, starting to control that exposure. ND32—now we’re talking! You can see the balance is much better. ND64—it’s getting a little dark now, especially in the shaded areas. And then ND128—pretty much pitch black at this point, way too dark for most situations. Picking the Right ND Filter So now I’ll show you a drone flying with ND128, and as you can see, it’s really dark—picking up all the shadows, but definitely too much for this shot. Going back down to ND16, and this is much better. For this specific shot, I’d probably go with ND32 for the best balance. Finding the right ND filter can be tricky sometimes, but you’ll get used to it. It all depends on the lighting conditions and what kind of shot you’re going for. Why You Need ND Filters ND filters are an absolute must-have in your drone bag. They: Make your shots look tons better by reducing brightness and improving contrast. Prevent overexposure, so you don’t lose important details in the highlights. Let you control your shutter speed, which helps create that smooth, cinematic motion. Honestly, they make such a massive difference, and I definitely recommend having a set ready to go. That’s it for today—see you guys in the next one. Cheers!

Startups! – My First Blog Post

My First Blog Post Here it is—my first blog post on my own personal branding site. Not entirely sure where I want to take these posts yet, but for now, I’m keeping them personal, real, and as a way to keep you updated on where I’m at with business. Why Now? The timing of this first post isn’t random. I’ve just released the first niche page focused on startups and personal branding sites. This is just the beginning—I plan to build out dedicated pages for all the niches I want to work with. The next one will be for solar panel companies, but before I can launch that, I need to put together some portfolio work, including drone shots and at least a few mock websites, to properly showcase what I can do. No one buys from an empty shop, so building a solid foundation of work is my current priority. Why Startups and Personal Brands? So why startups and personal brands first? Well, it’s personal. In my first year at the University of Salford (last year), I joined a business incubator as part of the business school. That experience taught me a lot—sometimes more than my actual business undergrad course. The reason I joined wasn’t just for the knowledge, but for the connections. I wanted to surround myself with like-minded people and learn how to get my web design business off the ground here in Manchester. The Opportunity And it worked. The incubator introduced me to a lot of people in the early stages of their business journeys—people who need websites now or will need them in the near future. These are exactly the kind of clients I want to work with. I’d love to collaborate with some of the people I met during that journey and help them establish a strong online presence that sets them apart. What’s Next? So, that’s where I’m at right now. Building niche pages, refining my portfolio, and positioning myself to work with startups, personal brands, and soon, solar companies. If you’re reading this and thinking about getting a website—or if you just want to follow along with my journey—stick around. This is just the beginning.
